For starters, the background of this page is a shot of an installation we did in an open area (family room, eating area, kitchen) using Antique Reclaimed Oak sourced from Mountain Lumber - 4 species, 13 widths, all short pieces to accentuate the "old" look.

This is an example of Patching - Our customer had an existing, old hardwood floor that needed refinishing to make it look better and it included several damaged / repaired areas that need to be "fixed" -- so we installed patches after removing the damaged boards, then sanded all of the floor and applied stain and finish - to create a NEW floor.

We installed prefinished hardwood flooring in the master and two other bedrooms. The client wanted "something different" so we proposed and then installed the flooring with contrasting borders circling the rooms with center "fields" of contrasting colors.  The center of the master's floor was installed diagonally, with a border of the same flooring, along with a contrasting strip of a lighter color. The other two room had a contrasting borders with solid fields of another, lighter color laid  parallel to a wall.
