Publishing the plan occurs in two steps:

  • Getting the MODs to publish the plan in the mission thread
  • Getting the HQ INFO team to issue Statewide Notices of mission (s)

These steps, and suggested / preferred formats are covered in this section

NOTE: Do Not Deviate from the following (more later)

  • ALL REQUESTS FOR POSTING MUST HAVE THE LINK TO THE THREAD SPECIFIED
    • UNLESS IT DOES NOT YET EXIST - I.E. CREATE THREAD REQUEST.
  • All plans are submitted to the MODs for posting:  mods@patriotguard.org
  • All plans submissions must CC: anc@patriotguard.org and va@patriotguard.org
    • Ensures the ANC and VA teams and VA SC are aware

Thread Guidelines:         Top Of Page

  • Thread titles format
    • Rank Full-Name, age, Hometown State
    • Rank Full-Name, age, Hometown State / ANC
    • Rank Full-Name, age, Hometown State MissionDate
    • Rank Full-Name, age, Hometown State MissionDate / ANC ANCDate
    • Rank Full-Name, age, Hometown State MissionDate / 2ndState 2nd Date / ANC ANCDate
    • Threads will also indicate MIA/POW status in the title
    • See note below on ANC thread title prefixes

  • Non-ANC Forums (For "regular" threads, as opposed to ANC threads)
    • Pending Mission Rides Forum
    • Confirmed Mission Rides Forum
    • Thread titles for above:
      • Edward Stanley, USAF, Korea, Grand Junction, CO, 09 JUL 08
      • Lt Col. Max A. Smith, 42, Pago Pago, AS
      • The thread they are in determines the mission status: Confirmed or Pending

  • ANC Forum
    • ANC has only the one forum for both mission status types
    • Thread title prefix must indicate status - Pending Confirmation or Confirmed
      • Confirmed - SGT James M. Smith, 24, Ft. Bragg NC/ANC
      • Pending Confirmation - SGT James M. Smith, 24, Ft. Bragg NC/ANC
    • Otherwise Thread title format (above) holds true for ANC threads

  • Rules for Multiple Threads for A Hero        Top Of Page
    • DoD announcements trigger MODs to create a "regular" thread in the Pending Mission Rides Forum
    • This results in condolences postings almost immediately
    • The official rules (PGR HQ) say:
      • If there is to be a regular (state) mission and also an ANC mission
        • Keep the "regular" thread for the state mission
          • Amend the title to add on the ANC and ANCDate at the title end
        • Create a new ANC thread
          • Close it to posting other than by the MODs
          • Reserve it for posting ANC mission plan
          • Include the following at the top of the thread:
            • "This ANC thread is for mission information only and will be a locked topic.
Please post your condolences in the original mission thread at this link:"
            • URL link back to the 'regular" / state thread
          • We then would post our mission plan info at the top of the top post in the thread, via MODs request
      • If the only mission is to be at ANC
        • Retitle the thread to include the ANC mission Status (Confirmed or Pending)
        • Move the thread to the ANC forum
        • We then would post our mission plan info at the top of the top post in the thread, via MODs request
    • We generally conform to the official rules

  • Group Burial of POW/MIA Heroes        Top Of Page

    • The military usually will identify the group by the last name of the senior officer in the group
    • When the DoD announcement arrives, MODs create an thread for each named Hero
    • When we receive notice of ANC announcement of a Group Burial, we:
      • Create a single "Pending Confirmation - " thread for ANC
      • We title the thread with identity nomenclature
        • 11 WWII  MIA USAAF Crew of B24 in New Guinea
        • Easy 40 Blackhawk Heroes Iraq KIA
      • We create multiple links back to main / state thread entries in the ANC thread
        • This ANC thread is for mission information only and will be a locked topic.
        • Rank-Name-1 - Please post your condolences in the original mission thread at this link:
        • URL link back-1
        • Rank-Name-2 - Please post your condolences in the original mission thread at this link:
        • URL link back-1
        • etc

Mission Plan Guidelines:        Top Of Page

  • Published Mission Plans need to be:
    • Comprehensive - all the info Riders need to ride the mission
    • Explanatory - Hero information, mission overview (parts / steps) plus the plan
    • Succinct - shorter is better, fewer words is better, as long as the above are met
    • Functional - easy for readers to find & extract key information they need.
    • Visually orderly - spacing, blank lines, indentation, columns, etc
    • In the case of a separate ANC plan thread - a brief recap of the Hero "loss" info (from the DoD, etc)

  • Published mission plans should not be:
    • All the info the RC needs - transmit that another way
    • A repeat of the DoD loss information - except for ANC thread recap (above)
    • Bio or Obit info on the Hero or family - except when incorporated via URL link

  • Submitting Plans to Mods
    • All plans are to be posted at the top of the first post in the thread for the Hero

    • All submission emails should be titled to include:
      • Urgent: Mission Plan: [title-line-from-the-thread}
        • Example: Urgent: Mission Plan: Confirmed - SSgt Christopher D. Strickland, 25, Labelle, FL, 05 JUL/ANC, 10, 11 JUL 08
    • All submission email must include the link to the thread into which the plan is to be posted
      • Makes the MODs job easier and so they like us better
    • All submission must include specific instructions of what you want the MODS to do
      • "Please change the thread title to: the full new thread title you want"
      • "Please change the first RC line from xxxxxxxxxxx  to yyyyyyyyyyyy"
      • "Please post the following information"
      • Always clearly mark the beginning and end of the text you want posted
        • Including any signature info you need to be in the post
        • Use 1 line to mark beginning:  Begin--------------------  followed by a couple of blank lines
        • All the info you want posted goes between the above and the below
        • use 1 line to mark the end: End------------------  preceded by a couple of blank lines
      • Use indentation, blank lines, and blank spaces to give the plan a nice readable format - making info easy to find
        • The style of the examples below and in the templates area good guide on how to do this

    • There are some format / style / font considerations imposed by the PGR forum site software:
      • The goal is for the  MODs to simply copy & paste your info from the email and paste into the form posting editor
        • Makes their job easier
        • Gets rid of unwanted formatting characters - which have to be manually removed
      • This means your email should be created:
        • Font is Arial,  Font Size is 10 point
        • No bold, No underline, No italics
        • Use spaces (not tab / tabs) to create text indentation / alignment / columns of data
      • If you want to include some signature / contact info as the submitter at the bottom of the "to be posted" text
        • Format as per above, but use 8 point Arial
        • It will be there, but will not overpower or detract from the plan itself

    • Plan Format Description:  (See the Samples for clarification)

      • 1 to 3 sentence overview of who is the Hero and what is to happen - top level summary

        • Example: Hero was killed in Iraq and is to be buried at ANC on date and time.  Burial will be preceded by viewing at FH on date from time to time and time to time

      • 1-2 sentence summary of the PGR role / deliverables

        • Example: PGR will mount an honor flag line doing visitation, and will, on the day of final services,  stand an honor line as the Hero is prepared for escort, provide a mounted escort from FH to ANC,  and stand in Honor at graveside

      • The succinct plan for each day / mission segment

        • Date - function

        • Plan times and locations

          • Stage

          • Brief

          • Depart

          • Honors / Flag Line

          • etc, etc

      • Segment Ride Captain name and phone and phone type

      • Special Plan Instructions:

      • Each mission places different requirements on some execution variables

        • We do not fly large mounted flags inside ANC past our initial parking of the bikes

        • We do fly large mounted flags for all escorts

        • We do NOT use large hand-held flags at graveside in ANC

        • We do use large hand-held flags for Honor Flag Lines at both Ft Myer Chapels

        • If we enter Ft Myer, we need to conform to military mandated ID, gear demands

          • Photo ID is required

          • Gear: long pants, long sleeves, reflective strap/vest when dark out, full finger gloves, face shield or goggles or windshield

        • This ID, gear requirement does not apply for other ANC services (non Ft Myer)

        • Iron horses are always preferred, but cages are always welcome

        • These items are to be considered during the planning phase, and documented in the published plan

State-Wide Email Request:        Top Of Page

  • Each mission will be "broadcast" to all riders in surrounding PGR states via a Statewide Request
    • State-wide emails are done by the INFO admin staff (bless them for this work)
    • Request them via an email to info@patriotguard.org
    • CC to anc@patriotguard.org (so we all know they have been sent & Tony gets his required copy!!)
    • Subject line: State-Wide: [mission thread title]
      • Example: State-Wides: SSgt Christopher D. Strickland, 25 - ANC, 10, 11 JUL 08
    • For ANC missions, request statewides for :
      • VA MD PA DE WV
      • Wide reach to maximize riders
    • The State-Wide should contain enough information for riders:
      • to make up their mind to ride
      • to allow them to ride the ride (stage, have the right gear, etc)
    • Email content:
      • The request:  Please issue State-wides to: VA MD PA DE WV
      • A break line, like: ====================

      • The rest of the body will be the content of the email INFO will sent our our behalf
        • The thread title line for the Hero
        • The URL link to the thread
        • A very short paragraph for who and why
          • Example: "Staff Sgt. Christopher D. Strickland, 25, of Labelle, Fla. died June 25, while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. "
          • This info may already be in the mission plan, which will be incorporated (next bullet)
        • The full mission plan from the web site (or your request for posting of same)

      • Multiple missions may be "announced" via a single State-Wide (saves effort)
        • Two types of subject line are acceptable:
          • State-Wides: There are 3 ANC Mission in the Coming Week - riders needed
          • State-Wides: 3 ANC Missions: SFC Smith 07/17/08; LtCol Johnson 07/18/08; Bosun Pszynski 07/20/08
        • Top of the message would have one request
          •  Please issue State-wides to: VA MD PA DE WV
        • Each mission/Hero would get a section in the body of the message
          • All the rules above apply for each mission
          • Clearly separate each mission from the others
            • Best done by line of ================= preceded and followed by a blank line
