Ordering Plaques:
Top Of Page
PGR presents a plaque to the next of kin at most missions (see
rules at the end) with the plaques being ordered as soon as the mission
is Confirmed. Usually there is enough lead time for the plaque to
be delivered within the lead time available (although, the recent
expedited return of Heroes to the US has shortened the time that was
available).
ANC Missions vs. Plaques
-
We do not normally order
and present plaques for ANC Missions
-
We do NOT usually have an
opportunity to present them
-
We never interrupt or
change the ANC ceremonies
-
We have contemplated asking the CAO to bring over the family member to our Honor
Line at the end of the graveside ceremony, and have
rejected that as intrusive on ANC procedures/ceremonies
-
In special cases, such
as the recent Polish Hero's services, we might consider
making an award at the 'family room" of the chapel - but
only with a lot of forethought, and with the concurrence
of the CAO/CACO.
-
If the ANC services include
calling hours or visitation, or a service, then we would have an opportunity
-
In most cases, there is a
"local" state portion of the overall mission, and we get the state
PGR to order and present the plaque.
-
If the plaque is ordered, but does not
arrive in time for the suggested presentation opportunity, options
include:
-
Ship it to the state PGR if they say
they can deliver
-
Perhaps there is a unit remembrance
ceremony, where that state PGR can present.
-
Punt - or get creative, but never just
mail it
-
If there is no local / state
mission then the first bullet above usually applies
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Summary of how to order:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Subject Line: URGENT PLAQUE REQUEST - [NAME
OF HERO]
HERO [Rank and Name
exactly as you want to appear) and Branch of
Service]
NAME AND ADDRESS of where
it is being shipped
(PO Box NOT Allowed
shipping via UPS)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Order immediately - as soon as mission is confirmed
To get it in time - normally 4-5 business days - print, the
UPS 3 day ship
- If faster needed (2nd day air, overnight) include
Credit Card # with order
To get it paid for by national - they pay for orders up to 2
weeks after mission
1 paid for by national if Hero is married or single with
parents NOT divorced
2 paid for by national if single and parents divorced.
All other cases, state pays for plaques beyond above - need
CC# along with order
Rank & Branch of service required to be sure we use proper
abbreviation for rank
If the plaque is for
a veteran, emergency personnel, or a PGR member please state this in the
order as we can now add that to our plaques. In other words let me know
if they are Retired, (Branch of Service) Veteran, what war they fought
in, rank although this is sometimes very hard to get if we are talking
about a military member, what civil service department they belong to
and city, state, or county (i.e. Kansas State Police, Portland Police or
Fire Department, Pulaski County Sheriffs department).

- Special Access SOP - Ft Myer
PGR members, all inclusive, will be allowed in the
"White Line" Chapel gate for Post Chapel funeral services only.
A phone call must be made to the MP Desk Sergeant by the RC prior to
departing Iwo to notify them of our impending arrival with the funeral
information and the # of riders.
Note: We have also made this SOP work when we are
doing a Memorial Chapel funeral - we merely change the chapel name - and
still go up the white line to the Old Chapel gate, and then move on to
Memorial Chapel.

Supporting other Regions in VA - Mission RC:
Top Of Page
-
You may be called upon to help another VA Region as a
non-ANC Mission RC (making it all happen)
-
The ANC arena is part of the NOVA District 9
territory, so there may be an non-ANC mission - Funeral Home and burial
in another cemetery (we did one at Quantico from Manassas)
-
In addition to ANC, and NOVA, Dave "owns" the VA Blue
ridge counties from WVA down to Waynesboro - he might need help there,
too.
-
Someone else in VA might call "Help"
-
There is a great deal of similarity between most of what
we do for ANC and a "more regular" Hero's funeral.
-
Take away the special Flag rules, and check-in
procedures, and add in the use of Flags at graveside - and an ANC
service becomes a regular service.
-
There is a little more work in planning routes (our
ANC ones are "standard")
-
There is a little more likelihood that the UGs
*Uninvited Guests" may show up.
-
There may be more family contact - this is a positive
- the families love us and want to hug us!
-
Bottom line, if you can do an ANC RC - non-ANC will be
just as easy for you
