Silverado Mounts, Bags on a
Custom
Several folks have used
Silverado mounts to mount hard bags on the custom - and it should work
with Silverado soft bags.
In the hard bag cases, they
have had to replace the rear turn signals as the bags stick out too far.
May be true of soft Silverado bags also.

02ctvstar --
I have the Tsukayn bags, They are very nice and the price is great. The one
thing that I am not so happy with are the locks, I am going to swap them
out, but the bags themselves are very good. I got the primer set, and
I did have to clean them just a bit up, but like I said for the money they
are VERY good.
joker1963 -- Pretty
simple install, and they look great. I got the square ones, and they're not
wide enough for a helmet - don't know about the others, you'd have to check
the dimensions on their site. The bags look and function great, especially
for the price.
Vstar_in_NH -- I took the
"Strong" model, painted. You have two choices, Black painted or primer. I
chose black. I order them off the website, $400.00 (ok, not too bad.)
The paint on the bags is in my opinion of marginal quality. Black shows
everything, the finish on the bags has been wet sanded and buffed to take
out most of the fish eye and pitting. They appear to be painted with lacquer
as it is very hard and will chip easily. Is it worth the $40.00 difference
from primed? Yes. Do they look good? Yes. Will I repaint them in urethane
next winter? YES. They had barrel locks, but I changed them over to pull
latch style by a company called SouthCo See my Install Info:

Trunks
(updated 05/15/09)
In order to
mount most of these trunks, you will need a flat luggage rack or make one of
your own.

Luggage Racks
(updated 1/17/06)
DIY Luggage Rack (See Pics below)
imnezrider (mdpar3)
Here's an
idea for those who seldom need a rack, but want something that will do the
job, is easy/quick to install and inexpensive to make. I decided to use
aluminum stock, but an alternative would be 'primed/painted' steel. If
aluminum is used, appearance is a priority and you aren't afraid to use
some elbow grease, try the following process:
Begin wet-sanding...use plenty of water! Start with 320 grit. A small
block of wood can be used as a sanding block. Sand until surfaces are as
smooth as possible with that grit. Then repeat the process with 400, 600,
800, 1000. Once there are no deep scratches, you are ready to polish. I
used Mother's Aluminum Polish and a fine 100% cotton cloth. Buff each
surface about 5-6 times, wiping clean with a separate cloth each time
