    2. How to Stop Hijacking

      I know, I know!!!

You just want to say "Hi" or ask a triggered question - like "What bags are those?" But it escalates - they answer, you answer back - someone else chimes in and the original intent of the thread is destroyed.

Discourteous to the original thread owner.
Discourteous to those following the thread or seaching threads by topic
      - BECAUSE IT IS NOT STAYING ON SUBJECT
      - because there is so much off topic garbage - very, very bad!

So STOP it! Even on off-topic threads, it can be disconcerting.

Take your off the subject questions, comments etc to their own thread or to thread labeled as OK to Hi-jack in
or just click on their Forum ID and send an email message via their profile

      A. Here's how to open your own thread

When you are in a thread looking at a message to which you want to respond "off-that-topic" (i.e. hi-jack)

--01 use your mouse to right-drag over the from forum ID (the one you want to start the hi-jack to)
--02 you want to highlight only the part inside the ( ) or the whole thing if it does not contain ( )
--03 right click and copy what you have highlighted
--04 on the left side of the forum window, go to the appropriate folder -- Off-Topic if you want to say Hi

or maybe General Discussion, or whatever
      --05 click on Post New
--06 in the window that opens
-- click on the Green Others button to the right of the To:
-- a dialogue box will open
-- paste what you previously copied over the contents of that box
              -- click OK
--07 Now type a Discussion title in the box above the From / to
-- make it meaningful so all will know what you mean.
--08 Now type your message in the main box.

Congratulations! You have just NOT Hi-Jacked!!

      B. To post your Non-Hi-Jack to any "OK to Hi-Jack thread"

When you are in a thread loooking at a message to which you want to respond "off-that-topic" (i.e. hi-jack)

--01 use your mouse to right-drag over the from forum ID (the one you want to start the hi-jack to)
--02 you want to highlight only the part inside the ( ) or the whole thing if it does not contain ( )
--03 right click and copy what you have highlighted
--04 navigate to any post in an OK-to Hi-Jack thread
--05 click Reply at the bottom of that post
--06 in the window that opens
-- click on the Green Others button to the right of the To:
-- a dialogue box will open
-- paste what you previously copied over the contents of that box
             -- click OK
--07 Now type a Discussion title in the box above the From / to
-- make it meaningful so all will know what you mean.
--08 Now type your message in the main box.

Congratulations! You have just NOT Hi-Jacked!!

    4. Permanent Sig How-To (not for Basic membership)

How to set up a permanent signature - to be applied to the end of every post.

I assume you have a HIGHER than basic membership........ and use Internet Explorer as your browser.

You need to store your photos on-line somewhere, I prefer www.Photobucket.com - free.

Once you have uploaded some pictures to Photobucket, click to get the lrger version of the picture, then right mouse click an copy

      Back to the forum

-- click on My Forums (upper right corner under Prospero)
-- click on My Preferences (scroll down the page to the end and look on the left panel)
-- scroll down until you see the Personal signature box

-- under the box, set the choice to WYSIWYG
-- click in the box and hit ENTER twice (makes two blanks lines - used later)
-- paste in the picture you copied way back in Photobucket
      -- your picture appears
-- click back in the box
-- scroll back to the top and then down one line
(leaves blank line at top of signature to separate it from text in posts/replies)
-- use the regular edit features to enter lines of text you want before the picture
      -- scroll past the picture
-- use the regular edit features to enter lines of text you want after the picture
-- scroll the entire page to the bottom
      -- press SUBMIT
-- go test your signature by starting a reply to any post
(just type X then go to preview to see it, and then to modify and then cancel)

The two blank lines at the top are put in first because it can be difficult to edit in text in front of pictures that are all the way at the top of the signature.

If your picture is too big (you didn't edit it in Easy Image Lite ( www.chameleon-systems.com ) -- click on it, click ad drag down and to the right on the black square in the upper left corner - this will resize the picture - the SUBMIT and preview again.

One blank is left at the top to separate the signature from any text put in during a post/reply.

If you are 'brave" you can even insert a table into the signature and use the table to space out your picture(s) and text - see my sig below -- CAUTION: ALWAYS LEAVE THE TABLE BORDER SET AT LEAST TO 1 - ELSE IT DISAPPEARS

    6. Firefox - HTML Mode Editing

Note: Must be an Advanced or Plus member to use HTML - and this editor
Note: These instructions apply to Windows PC's only (Linux & Mac see link below)
Note: Print a copy of this - so you can follow easily

What Editor will let you do:

          * Create, edit or reply to messages
          * Easily add colored text, bold, italics, underline, fonts, lists, links, images, tables and more
          * Select text colors with one click of the mouse
          * Insert images into your messages.  Works with Smiley Xtra too
          * Insert tables.  Can set table and cell colors, table and border width, and more
          * Switch back and forth between WYSIWYG and HTML mode
          * Works with Firefox on PCs, Mac OS X and Linux
          * Automatically displays a plain text area if a forum does not have HTML enabled or if you are a Basic member
          * Editor toolbar and message area use colors, fonts and backgrounds from the forum stylesheet
          * Works with the Spellbound extension for spell checking
          * Works with Smiley Xtra extension to insert smileys
          * Automatically marks the Using HTML checkbox for you

This post is, I hope, a simpler version of the info contained here:
            http://forums.delphiforums.com/gofirefox/messages?msg=481.1

Step-1:  Download and install Greasemonkey Extension

          * Menu bar of Firefox: Tools click on  Extensions
          * In new window that opens, click Get More Extensions (bottom right corner)
          * New windows opens, enter Greasemonkey in the search box (upper right), click Go
          * In search results, click on Greasemonkey link 1/2 way down page
          * New window opens, click Install Now
          * Click Install Now in warning window that opens
          * End and restart Firefox for install to finish

      Step-2 Download and Install Editor

          * Get the install script: clcik the link below
                o
      http://people.delphiforums.com/WHITEMARE2/editor/dfRTE.user.js
          * When new window opens (incomprehensible letters = script):
o Go to Menu Tools, click on Install This User Script
o Click OK in the window that pops open
o Click OK when prompted to refresh the page (if asked)
o Be sure to click the Reload This page button when done (Upper left, just below the menu bar)

Step-3:  Done! Give it a try!

          * Now try creating or editing messages.
          * The buttons and dropdowns should all work just like in the IE editor.
          * You can just click a color on the toolbar to change the color of text.
          * When editing messages, you will first see the page to edit the plain text.

Click the button called Edit HTML Version to use the formatting editor.
          * To insert a link, highlight some text (or a picture), click on the CreateLink button, enter the link, click OK - voile'
          * To insert a picture, click on the InsertImage button, enter the link to the image, click OK - voile'
          * Do NOT use InsertTable - unless you know what you are doing - can screw you up!
          * If you want to go back to using the regular text area, you can turn off the editor by clicking on the little

monkey face in the bottom right corner of Firefox.

If you want to uninstall the editor, go to Tools/Manage User Scripts. Choose the Rich Text Editor for DelphiForums.  Click the Uninstall button to
completely remove it from your computer.

Enjoy - and let me know if you have questions - I'll do my best to help you out!

      Dave

PS: If you want to install the ability to add Smileys - check out this link (NOT simplified by me!)

    9. Sig Pic How To

FIRST - you must have a paying account with Delphi Forums to post a sig pic that will show up with EVERY post you make. Here's the info to upgrade your membership:

      Delphi Member Upgrade

With a Free Membership you can have a sig pic but you will have to copy and paste the html code to each post you want it to show in.

      SIGNATURE INSTRUCTIONS:
First thing is to find a place to host the graphic. Some of the recommended sites are:
      http://www.cruisergallery.com/modules.php?name=SigPic_Hosting
      http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/
      http://www.datazap.net/
      http://www.villagephotos.com/
      http://www.photobucket.com
      http://www.imagestation.com/
      http://www.villagephotos.com/index.asp

I can't vouch for any of these but Photobucket since I don't use the others but at one time they were all reported to be free. And I know Photobucket is free.

Be sure to resize it to the size you want in your sig (normally no larger than 400 pixels wide, smaller is better) and upload it to the server space you found.

Once you have your photo to a hosting service you will need to actually put in the code to include it in your signature file.

1.) Go to MY FORUMS and on the left hand side click MY PREFERENCES

2.) Scroll down till you see the signature box

3.) For DelphiPlus, click the SOURCE Button. (IMPORTANT)

4.) Use a similar html code as below:

      <P align=center><IMG height=398 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/free2ride/bulletjune06mods.jpg" width=650 border=0></P>

You will obviously need to know the file location address for your photo. For example, mine is above is
      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/free3ride/bulletjune06mods.jpg

With Photobucket you will see the file location address under your photo with the word "url" beside it. Just copy and paste the that in your htlm code.

You can also put text before/after the image. Just remember to use to insert a blank line by adding </p>.

5.) With DelphiPlus, click the WYSIWYG button and you should see your photo displayed. If it does not show then click the SOURCE button again and double-check your code and the URL/address of your photo.

6.) When it's set to your satisfaction, scroll to the bottom of the page and click SUBMIT.  (IMPORTANT)

You can test your email(sig) by posting a message and using PREVIEW to see how it looks. or you can post it in the sig testing folder to test and see what everyone thinks or for help.

      To Resize a Picture -

First find out what the height and width of the original picture is. In this case it is height 398 and width 650. Divide both numbers by a number to decrease the size say 2 to make it half the size. So in the case of this pic it would be height 199 and width 325. Add/modify the height and width in the html link and instantly a picture half the size.

      First picture before Html changes:

      <IMG height=398 alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/free2ride/bulletjune06mods.jpg" width=650 border=0>

      After Html changes:

      <IMG height=199 alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/free2ride/bulletjune06mods.jpg" width=325 border=0>
